Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Gravity's Grin." Albert Einstein predicted the concept of gravitational lensing - where objects could be so massive that their gravitational force would be sufficient to bend light - but we've only recently been able to see direct evidence for this phenomenon. The Cheshire Cat Galaxy Group in the constellation Ursa Major (Great Bear aka The Big Dipper) owes its appearance to the optical effects generated by gravitational lensing. Our glimpse through today's looking glass was produced by datasets from the Chandra and Hubble space telescopes.
