APOD: 2019 October 20 - Pluto at Night

Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Pluto at Night." Another treasure from the 2015 New Horizons mission is our feature image today. What intrigues me the most is the obvious layered atmosphere of Pluto (which suggests a planetary core, gravity, etc). Pluto has been classified as a dwarf planet since 2006 (so the Solar System has eight planets, and Pluto isn't one of them), but debate about this continues. In early 2017, a NASA team put forward a proposal for a new definition of a planet that, if agreed upon, would mean reclassifying Pluto as a planet. However, over 100 more objects would be classified as planets in our Solar System if this definition is accepted. Dwarf planet it is then.
