Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Andromeda before Photoshop." I have enough trouble with taking one picture. Our feature today is a stack of 223 images, each with a 300 second (5 minute) exposure setting, all taken from a site in Portugal over the course of a year. The usual suspects for such a long exposure are all present: airplanes, satellites, and cosmic rays. All in all, a pretty impressive feat of work.

It certainly is understandable why scientists remove earthly artifacts and in reality, Photoshop alone cannot remove these artifacts as easily as the multiple filters that are used to eliminate the earth based artifacts.
