APOD: 2019 October 9 - NGC 7714: Starburst after Galaxy Collision

Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "NGC 7714: Starburst after Galaxy Collision." NGC 7714 was discovered by John Herschel on September 18, 1830. Tailing off to the left in this image is NGC 7715 (the bulk of which is not shown). It appears that NGC 7715 passed completely through NGC 7714, igniting an apparent "nursery" of new star formation in its center. Based on these observations, the golden ring surrounding the center is thought to be made up of millions of older Sun-like stars that are likely co-moving with the interior bluer stars. NGC 7714 lies about 130 million light years away towards the constellation Pisces.

Good Wednesday Morning to you Maj William W. 'Bill' Price and a gorgeous image of two galaxies that have merged with NGC 7715 on the left and the stronger of the two, NGC 7714 on the right... I found a video which basically zooms in on these two galaxies which have collided and one has been really ravaged by the other... it is an interesting perspective...
