It's not just aircraft, most of our arms manufacturing, final assemblies and parts, has shrunk due to mergers. There's no doubt that if a major conflict comes down the pike we would have to use industries producing other items now to produce weapons systems, just as we did in WWII.

I thing correct me if I am wrong our flyers in WW1 had to use French planes as we did not make planes at the time for miliary use.

We used British and French planes during WW1.

LTC (Join to see) The greatest mistake we made in WW1 was using French weapons like the Chauchat light machine gun. It jammed frequently as it's magazines were open on one side to allow the user to know how many rounds were left in the magazine. Dirt and mud were a constant issue in the magazine working properly.
