Fairport Convention - Live At Royal Festival Hall (24th September 1969)

On the 28th of September 1969, Fairport walked on stage to play the live debut of their soon to come album, Liege & Lief, at the Royal Festival Hall.
This small tour of the UK and a brief visit in Denmark was done before recording the album in studio, as the band would start in October and finish a month later, prepping up the album for its December release.
Before the album was published, two key members left the band: Sandy Denny, which would work more on her songwriting in the following years with Fotheringay and during her solo career, and Ashley Hutchings, which would leave to form famous folk rock group Steeleye Span.

The rest of the group would thus continue as an all-male 5-piece, leading to the period dubbed “Fairport Confusion” by co-founder and rhythm guitarist Simon Nicol.

This tape, although in quite a bad shape, contains a couple of tracks recorded during Fairport’s isolation in Farley Chamberlaine which didn’t make it on the album: Sir Patrick Spens (re-recorded a year later by the band for the Full House album), Mason’s Apron, Quiet Joys Of Brotherhood (re-recorded by Denny for her 1972 album Sandy), Ballad Of Easy Rider (included on the bonus track version of Unhalfbricking, although it was recorded during the Liege & Lief sessions) and Just A Little Talk With Jesus, which is abruptly cut short, ending the concert.
