Bio

My 20 year career in the Army began at Ft Knox with the 2/6 Cav in support of the Armor School, from there to Germany with the 1st ID (Fwd) and 1/4 Cav, including 2 border tours on the Czech Border. Due to my oldest son's hearing impairment and the loss of the Audiologist in the Stuttgart area I did an inter-theater transfer to 3/32 Ar, 3rd AD in the Frankfort area. From Germany after 4+ years i went to Ft Riley and the Big Red One and 1/63 Ar. When they asked for volunteers to form a pilot Long Range Reconn Detachment I was accepted as one of the first 6 members of what would be know as the Duty First Patrol, which, along with similar units from the 9th ID and 18th AB Corps, became trial units for the later LRSD's in the Army. Next came a 3 year tour with the Recruiting Command in the New England area. From there to ANCOC and TC3 for my M1 tank transition. Next came Baumholder with 2/68 Ar and a side trip to Desert Shield/ Desert Storm and then back to Germany to await my PCS orders. From Germany back to Ft Knox and 1/12 Cav (same barracks and mission as 2/6 Cav in 76). From there to the 194th Armored Bde (Sep) in the Bde 3 shop until it's inactivation and then to the Ft Knox NCO Academy in Operations until my retirement in 1996. The same month I retired from the Army I began work at Dana Corp as a welder in the assembly department. We built the frames for the Ford F150's as well as the Ford Expedition/ Lincoln Navigator. After several years, the Frame Division was sold to another company but they still continue to build the truck frames there. I moved to the Quality Dept for several years, including time in the Supplier Quality area. During a partial layoff I was transferred to the Press Department and ran a 2000 ton stamping press for some time and was then moved back into the Quality Department in the press area for several years. I moved back to the assembly area and ran one of the CMM machines which checked the frames for numerous issues. Finally, I was asked to return to the press dept and take over the Gage Control office and do the plants calibrations (I had previously done this before but got bumped out by someone more senior. Since I was the only person in the entire plant that was already trained in this area I was asked to return after the last person passed away). I continued in that position until I retired in 2017.
