APOD: 2020 January 23 - Globular Star Cluster NGC 6752

Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Globular Star Cluster 6752." A globular cluster is a spherical collection of stars that orbits a galactic core. Globular clusters are very tightly bound by gravity, which gives them their spherical shapes, and relatively high stellar densities toward their centers. Over 10 billion years old, NGC 6752 follows clusters Omega Centauri and 47 Tucanae as the third brightest globular in our night sky. it is some 13,000 light years away in the constellation Pavo. The bright blue star at 11 o'clock in the image lies along the line of sight from Earth, and is actually is in front of NGC 6752.
