Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Solstice Illuminated: A Year of Sky." The entire clip lasts not quite five minutes. A video camera on the roof of the Exploratorium in San Francisco, California, recorded images of the sky every 10 seconds from mid-2009 to mid 2010. Each panel shows one day. With 360 movie panels, the sky over (almost) an entire year is shown in time lapse format. The frame that gets dark first (~ 3:38) marks the Winter Solstice. I think the variations in clouds and wind direction are almost mesmerizing .

Good Sunday morning to you Maj William W. 'Bill' Price and thank you for this amazing collage of videos based on 24-hours of images every 10-seconds in each panel... I have never seen anything like this done before and therefore I find it interesting in that perspective, yet It leaves me in a quandary as to what each day's "video" really envisions... Thus, it both fascinates me and leaves me pondering the larger picture of at least one of those panels... All in all, a great APOD for today!!!

That's really cool. To a midwesterner, it is rather amazing how many days are cloudy or mostly cloudy on a cool, windward coast. I've been to Frisco a couple of times, the wind was always straight off the ocean. Bet that camera was angled north. Again, really cool.
