APOD: 2019 December 6 - Pleiades to Hyades

Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Pleiades to Hyades." If you live in the Northern Hemisphere and are up and out before dawn this month, you can look straight up and easily see the Pleiades (Seven Sisters or M45, 400 light years distant) in the constellation Taurus (the Bull). Not so much with the Hyades, which are anchored by the bright red star Aldebaran. In this image, the Pleiades are at the top and Hyades are at the bottom (near the head of Taurus, 150 light years distant). In Greek mythology, both star clusters are named for the daughters of Atlas (Pleione the sea nymph is the mother of the Pleiades, and Aethra the Hyades). This wide field of view includes the dark nebula Barnard 22 at left with youthful star T Tauri and Hind's variable nebula just above Aldebaran in the frame.
