“Welcome to the weekend everyone and lets’ talk about good character and bad character. Good character is how you treat others who having nothing to do with you and who can do nothing for you. A person’s action will tell you everything you need to know about their character. That leads me to this quote for those who are suffering in the character department…

‘The truth of your character is expressed through the choice of your actions.’ — Unknown Author

With bad character you lose trust with others, you will destroy relationships, your reputation will always be questioned, and you will never reach your full potential. That leads me to this quote…

‘A bad character is like a flat tire; you can’t go anywhere until you change it.’ — Zig Ziglar

May you always do the right thing when people aren’t looking, because it’s a test of your character; may you always act with respect, responsibility, caring, and other ‘good’ traits; may your mind, body, and soul be opened to grace, goodness, peace, forgiveness, and a continued bountiful life of purpose; and keep your family safe, secure, happy, and healthy.” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

I was a teacher at a Job Corps after leaving the Army. Sometimes teens would ask me why I do the things I do like pick up random peices of trash or "right" something in disarray, etc. I told them it's called integrity. Just do the right thing even if no one is looking.

I expect your well-tested character, reliable nature, and noble aspirations inspires those who rely on you for leadership, advice and friendship. No doubt your character has been matured through challenges, testing, periods of prosperity and periods of scarcity. Standing on the rock-solid foundation of the atonement of the Christ is the only absolutely solid foundation in existence. ‘The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.’ [Psalm 18:2-3 ESV], my brother-in-Christ COL Mikel J. Burroughs.

I pray for an increase of self-control, compassion and goodness for each of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who reads or hears this prayer LORD. I thank you for purifying our character through sanctification of the soul of each of us dear LORD. ‘For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [2 Peter 1:5-8 ESV]
I hope your integrity is intact and I hope your transparency of character does you justice and is worthy of emulation. No doubt your humility is genuine and you do not put on airs in social interactions since you have self-confidence and have no need or desire to demean others. The LORD justified each of us who are HIS adopted sons and daughters at our salvation and cleanses us of all sin and defects. By HIS grace HE sees us as pure with impeccable character even while HE sanctifies our soul to perfectly reflect HIS image. I hope and pray that you and I have taken to heart the admonition of the LORD to confess our shortfalls and failures and ask the LORD to help us genuinely repent and when appropriate ask for forgiveness. Scripture reminds us ‘for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift,’ [Romans 3:23 ESV] and ‘if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’ [1 John 1:8-9 ESV]
I expect that you stand firm on bedrock principles which at times are tested by direct challenges; you have stood up at times for family members and friends; and those who rely on you for leadership. I hope your firm foundation in character and your courage of convictions has increased along with the respect of others. I hope that our personal integrity is impeccable and that we demonstrate love with grace as we stand firmly. I pray that you and I stand firm on rock-solid principles rooted in the Word of God all the rest of our days. ‘Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. [Ephesians 4:15-16 ESV]
I lift those struggling along the road of life because of grief, pain, weakness, fear, abuse and/or injustice to YOU, LORD including the guiltless imprisoned, those afflicted with PTSD and mental illness. I pray for sufficient endurance and a strengthening of the character if each one of us who is going through harder times than we have previously experienced – including widows, widowers, divorcees, and others whose hopes, dreams, and love has been upended LORD, YOU know how much each individual can bear. YOU build character in each of YOUR adopted sons and daughters through challenges, trials and periods of suffering. We recognize that YOU build character through our challenges. Strengthen our endurance through these trails dear LORD. ‘Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.' [Romans 5:3-5 ESV]
I lift the trustworthy and solid character government, military, business, & industry leaders, administrators and managers to YOU dear LORD. I pray that YOU bless each one with sufficient knowledge, skill and wisdom to lead those who rely on them. I pray that YOU bless each with trustworthy people to work with them and in support of them. I pray that YOU motivate each one to use their time, talents and resources to bless as many as they should. ‘What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.’ [James 2:14-17 ESV]
The LORD admonishes each of us about character
a. ‘Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.’ [Romans 5:3-5 ESV]
b. ‘For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.' [2 Peter 1:5-8 ESV]
I pray that you and your family members slept well Saturday night and will awoke refreshed and healthy on Sunday morning.

Good morning Col Burroughs and Posse. Yes, character counts both when you are being observed and when you aren't.
Character is doing the right thing whether or not the crowd approves. Can you stand up to the pressure and have the courage of your convictions. What comes to mind right now is the Marine who stood up and said our leadership has failed us and has taken a lot of heat for it. IMO, he has met the test of character and stood for what he believes is the right thing to do. We all face tests of our character and our faith. How do you do on yours?
