The USAF found it difficult to justify the Warrants. In the Army, especially in aviation, they are flyers, advisers, and such but do not hold primary staff and command positions traditionally.
For the technical fields, we have found a place more easily. The USAF could adopt the WO ranks as they have been exploring the idea of NCO pilots. Its political though. I talked to an AF Colonel a year ago and he laughed at the idea of bringing in the W grades saying they didnt need to promote or pay NCOs to get them to fly.
