APOD: 2022 June 20 - Rock Fingers on Mars

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the June 20th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Rock Fingers on Mars." With all of the recent news from Perseverance and Ginny, its easy to forget about the Curiosity rover. This image was captured on May 15, 2022, as Curiosity continued to climb Mount Sharp in Gale Crater. From the JPL Photojournal:
"NASA's Curiosity Mars rover spotted these finger-like rocks with its Mast Camera...[they] likely formed as groundwater trickled through rock in the ancient past, depositing mineral cements over time; many years later, when the rock was exposed to the atmosphere, wind eroded the softer material around the cemented portions."
Do you recognize the shapes of these formations? You've seen pictures of similar deposits around hydrothermal vents on the ocean floor. And larger hoodoos have been regular features in past APODs.
