Four months after the deadline for Veterans Affairs workers to be vaccinated against coronavirus, about 40,000 staffers remain unvaccinated but only a few have been fired for refusal, department officials said Tuesday.
The new figures come as Republican lawmakers are renewing their calls to drop the vaccine mandate and allow VA employees to continue to work without penalty even if they ignore the department’s rules.

The only thing that makes the Republican demands reasonable is the fact that progress against Covid have begun to overcome the need for masks.

This should have never been Republican v Democrat but withheld to the standards already in play for other vaccines. If one was in a position before COVID that required proof of vaccines then COVID should be included and if not, COVID should not be included. Vaccine policies amongst employers and schools have been in place for decades and in my opinion COVID should fall in line with those policies. For the record, I favor the right and received all three shots ahead of the general population. My wife and kids have received three shots and two respectively.

It seems as if the normal “I hate Trump and all Republicans” want them fired. That certainly would benefit those currently having a hard time getting VA medical and other services. But, politics override common sense.
