Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "The Changing Surface of Fading Belegeuse." These images from the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chilé clearly show how the surface of Betelgeuse (in the constellation Orion) has changed during 2019. Some observers assert that the changes have been primarily in the last five months. What is remarkable (to me, at least) is that the star (700 light years distant) is large enough for an Earth-bound telescope to image its surface with some clarity. From approximately 4.105 quadrillion (or 4,105 trillion if you prefer) miles away. That's one big star.

I wonder if it is getting ready to go Nova? Or maybe, even cooler, some Civilization has set up a Dyson Sphere around it. And changes that noticeable from that distance, have to be some really massive changes.
