Those of us who are close to people are their best life jacket. However, as I keep saying, DO NOT be afraid to ask: Are you thinking about killing yourself? It will not put the thought in the mind of someone who is not thinking about it. To get help for a disease, you have to know that someone has that illness. ASK!

I have known many suicides and talked with several in the days before they killed themselves - usually with a gun [in my experience] Lt Col Charlie Brown.
I am also familiar with murders that were disguised as suicides usually with drugs.

SPC Margaret Higgins - the number of veterans who commit suicide is an exact number - each successful suicide is known to those who find the body.
USA bandies about a number from the past.
If you look at the VA's report on suicides [comparing veteran and non-veteran] you will see how they derived the 20 per day average from 2005 through 2015.

You are welcome my friend SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth. I had hoped that the update from VA I received today would included day past 2015 but that is not the case.
