Yes, sir! GySgt Ermey is better known for his role in "Full Metal Jacket." He actually served as a Marine Drill Instructor during the '60s.

Thanks for sharing my friend SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. This discussion reminds me of the upper classman when I was a plebe in beast barracks who was a gifted singer and had a receptor of songs from the 1950's rock and roll era. He had to teach us the words many times but I enjoyed the call and response as we marched over hill and dale in the summer of 1976.
When I was an acting drill sergeant in the summer of 1978 I had to lead the cadences which was challenging because I do not have a good singing voice.
From 1985 to 1989 when I was assigned to the US Army Infantry Training Center first as a company commander and later in other capacities, marching companies and platoons would sing cadences and sometimes compete with other units as they marched past each other. It was always great to see esprit de corps displayed positively in a way that uplifted all involved.
