LVIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian officials defiantly rejected a Russian demand that their forces in Mariupol lay down arms and raise white flags Monday in exchange for safe passage out of the besieged strategic port city.

Its only a war crime when you lose and have to surrender. If the Germans had done to NYC what we did to Cologne and other German cities, they would have been tried for it. Its a shame they didn't do a better job of getting non combatants out of these areas. I have been rooting for Ukraine, but have tried to be objective. Can you assume if your on the other side those who stayed wanted to fight? Tough thing to sort through the propaganda on.

Tough call, you reach a point where the toll on human life and facilities are not acceptable. No idea what would be best for the city residents.
