Unfortunately, I believe that the prestige these noble former President's gained through their service has become overshadowed in a world where elections cost hundreds of millions of dollars through the campaigning process where candidates present empty promises which weaken the nation but appeal to the slothy masses and economic thralls.

Capt Jeffrey Kempff, CPT to CPT stay focus answer the question and don't let the BS blind side. We as veterans can choose to play along or choose to be that OEF, OIF or next LIC President that the question asked about.

I'll give it a go, but I would be so blatantly pro-military and veteran that I'd get taken out before the end of my first year.

The bigger problem is that most American don't care about what is important. If asked, they would probably say the cared about veterans, but if they had to do anything more than answer the question they would lose all interest. Someone would be getting in the way of their television, Facebook posting or whatever 'important' thing happening on their phone.

SFC Mark Merino, you will not be taken out at all because you will vets, serving as your Force Pro. Think about those that have the skills to listen to all phone conversations and share that with those that take care of business.

MSG Brad Sand - Therefor use Military Huminsit understanding, and manipulation to get the vote; we become lobbyist sort of.

I'm still hoping Colin Powell will run. However I think it would be great to have a president that was involved in one of those.

I could not vote for Powell he has shown to be a flip flopper. He was conservative and then he started going liberal when he was chastised. Nope not a fan.

Honestly, I doubt it. For one, the cultural shift in our nation no longer sees military service as a valuable thing or an obligation of being a citizen. With only 1% of our population having ever served, that is a very small candidate pool. Second, many vets are turned off by politics further reducing the candidate pool.
I would love to see a vet from our generation in the White House, but honestly the folks who run for high office tend to be career politicians.

SSG (Join to see), I have heard rumors that, but then I also heard rumors that more Americans have died from Ebola than have married Kim Kardashian.

1LT William Clardy, so you don't believe any President ever graduated from Harvard or Yale?

SSG (Join to see), "graduated" is *such* a powerful word.
Let's just say that I'm as likely to believe that a fighter jockeys could be elected president, or that the Clintons and Bushes have something in common.
And that I should read twice and post once lest I inadvertently transpose quantities in a comparison.

The office of the President has term limits for a reason...to avoid an "elected king." Instead, we have a system of "career politicians." I strongly feel that individuals should have an overall limit to the amount of time that they serve in congress and as appointed cabinet level chairs. Elected office is not meant to be a career. Elected officers are servants of the people. For this reason, I don't think the President or members of congress should receive a pension upon leaving office. They were paid for their time while serving in office.
My two cents worth is abolish pensions for elected officials and a constitutional amendment placing overall term limits on federal elected and cabinet level appointed service.
This would make room for more OIF/OEF vets to serve at the national level.

General David Petraeus had the best shot...may have blown it.
If Generals Ray Odierno or John Campbell keep it up, they may find themselves as a nominee.

I saw P4 first hand, other than the shenanigans with miss Broadwelll, he would be a solid President. Not sure what leadership issues TSGT Poundstone may be aware of.

MAJ Laurie H., its coming look at the Congress, slowly but surely and surely but slowly. I estimate by 2035 we will see a President from OIF, OEF, OND in the White House as POTHUS.

Head of the Internet. Don't know if we'll get all the buy-in necessary, but I like it ;)
I guess I'll have to 'settle' for being the DIRNSA.

I doubt that we will see a combat veteran in the White House without some serious change. Politicians today more and more are businessmen and -women. Am I saying that service members are not? No. What I am saying is that most politicians are able to either provide millions of dollars or raise millions of dollars in order to win an election. Are there exceptions to this? Certainly. Could one of those exceptions make it that far? Maybe, but not likely.
Here is the second point I would like to make. While I would love to see a combat veteran from this era (or any veteran, for that matter) as President, I would rather have a President who is capable of appointing competent subordinates, assigning them their mission, and then listening to their input or advice. Leaders at all levels of the military (are supposed to) do that, and I think that the President should be no different. The Chiefs of Staff of the services have spent their entire lives as leaders of their respective services, and the President should be able to realize that he is the Johnny-Come-Lately, and should be able to listen and learn from his senior military subordinates.
