What my wife isn't like about Canadian government is the
Métis. 'Métis' can refer to the historic Métis community in Manitoba's Red River Settlement or it can be used as a general term for anyone with mixed European and Aboriginal heritage. Some mixed-ancestry communities identify as Métis, others as Indian.
My wife has an Indian status card. You have to be 50% or more Quantum blood level to be able to carry this identification. The US border customs people are very familiar with this card. The m e t i s people fall below the threshold. I could even pretend to be a métis just like a man can pretend to be a transgender. No proof just saying you are m e t i s. They seem to get more funding than real First Nations people. My wife was also talking about how Trudeau is thinking of getting rid of the Indian Act.
Canada is trying to do reparations to indigenous people. They're not doing it 120 years after the fact like Democrats are doing it now. People who were in residential schools or who experienced trauma, rape, abuse can do some paperwork and get anywhere from 10K to over 120k based on their experiences and documentation.
I have been to a Truth and Reconciliation meeting that was held about a decade ago to apologize to the indigenous people. There is still racism and the social workers are more like the gestapo. If a white kid running around in a diaper in his front yard is observed, the social workers probably won't do anything except for the parents. If the same thing happens with an Indian kid, the social workers will come with the police and take the kid away.
My wife applied a few months ago because the deadline has now passed.
