The racist US military provided used P-40 War Hawks to TuskeeGee Black aviators until they complained and finally got P-51 Mustangs in 1944.

Funny, the Brits had zero problems using the P40. I think the Tuskegee men deserved the P51's just as the rest of the Air Corps. They received the 'D' version which was a great plane and they used it to great effect.

I had a Golden Books edition of The Flying Tigers that I read over and over as a kid. Guess it probably instilled the love of flying in me at a very young age.
