In some of the heaviest raids of the war, 150 U.S. Air Force and Navy planes launch Operation Tiger Hound to interdict the Ho Chi Minh Trail in the lower portion of the Laotian panhandle, from Route 9 west of the Demilitarized Zone, south to the Cambodian border.
The purpose of this operation, which lasted until 1968, was to reduce North Vietnamese infiltration down the trail into South Vietnam. After 1968, the Tiger Hound missions became part of a new operation called Commando Hunt.

SP5 Mark Kuzinski, I was a junior in high school. We had just finished a horrible season of football (of which I was a part) and waiting on Christmas break. The word Vietnam had not entered my vocabulary.

Interdiction operations on the Ho Chi Minh Trail required real-time intelligence in order to interdict specific targets and concentrations of personnel, equipment, etc. moving along that network of trails SP5 Mark Kuzinski. Emplaced sensors, covert surveillance teams and other assets helped identify targets moving along that network. Since bombing was not as accurate as the smart-bombs now employed, more munitions were required to achieve a sufficient level of death and destruction.
