Thank you, my friend SGT (Join to see) for making us aware that on February 2, 1964, Hasbro debuted GI Joe, as a toy for boys [girls had Barbie and Ken was not as rugged as many boys wanted] Hasbro made a great move with GI Joe. GI Joe's in great shape are valuable similar to early baseball cards in great shape because most were not cared for well at all.

SGT (Join to see), while serving as a Tactical Officer (like a drill sergeant on steroids) at OCS, an officer candidate arrived for training. He was a prior service Marine, who looked amazingly like the G.I. Joe doll, with the square jaw and blonde hair. His Tactical Officer was brilliant and took matters in hand immediately. He told the OC that he must present the doll in proper uniform when he next saw him. He even christened the OC as G.I. Joe!
Sure enough, not long after, we had a ceremony where the doll was presented in formation. I think the officer and the candidate must have rehearsed, because it was a flawless ceremony! The Tactical Officer called out in perfect command voice, “Joe, pre-sent Joe!” The OC removed the doll from his ammo pouch and came to present arms, much like a rifle salute! It was hilarious! The officer candidates were in OD cotton fatigues and so was the doll!
The OC carried the doll the entire cycle, because he was routinely called upon to present the doll!
