Seems like his name should go so that she doesn't have to share with anyone.

Thank you my friend PO1 William "Chip" Nagel for making us aware.
West Virginia still has many things named for Senator Byrd [who was clan member]. I expect many things are still named in honor of Strom Thurmond and other prominent clan members who later renounced their involvement.
The clan is closely linked to the democrat party in postbellum southern and border states.
There is a focus by some to dredge up history in a limited fashion and apply modern mores and viewpoints to earlier epochs. As a student of history for over half a century, this is interesting and sad.
Although naming of institutions can seem to be a bland issue, there are some who take this further and destroy statues, etc associated with past ....

I was there at the overnight vigil for the Robert E. Lee Memorial in New Orleans, which still stands, by the way. Lee's Circle, the traffic roundabout, is all part of the Memorial. I was there when the City had the Fire Department violate US Federal Law protecting Veteran's monuments, when they unskillfully removed the statue. The protestors were all fake as Hell. Nothing but a bunch of drug addled phreaks and paid agitators. There was a sick circus for the TV crews by these degenerates. I was on the World War Two Museum side when that phreak show tried to stir up trouble in the, mostly Senior museum patrons. They walked right past the War Between The States Museum that permanently flies two official Confederate States of America Flags on short flagpoles. They were completely ignored by the group that was deadset on causing chaos. I dressed them down and ran their sorry butts out of there to the applause of the crowd.
I went down to Lafayette Square, across St. Charles from Gallier Hall (Old N'awlins City Hall). This was a mere 3 blocks away from Lee's Circle. Mayor Mitch Landrieu had planned a victory soirée at this converted event hall. Across the street stands the bust and memorial to one John McDonogh, benefactor to of the Orleans Parish public school system. Once over 30 schools bore his name. New Orleans benefited for over a century from the land holdings that he bequeathed the City. Mayor Landrieu's father, Mayor Moon Landrieu, built his ill-fated, crime ridden, Fischer Projects on his old plantation land. I put a posted board on the children statues frolicking under this man's memorial. The sign stated, 'Hey Mitch, I was a plantation slave owner. Why don't you take me down?"

I don't know anybody who is sinless and unprejudiced my friend PO1 William "Chip" Nagel. Ted Kennedy died prejudiced and unrepentant. Fortunately the Kennedy family seems to be getting its fair share of criminal prosecution, now.
1. It is easy to look at those who lived in previous centuries though our 'enlightened' viewpoints, yet it is hypocrisy for any to claim righteous anger at the caricatures we make of those who lived, fought and died so long ago. Even Adolph Hitler loved children and dogs, after all. :-(
2. Destruction of the past and it relics is a totalitarian response which is always justified by those who do it - from Nazi Germany, to the USSR, Communist China, Pol Pot Cambodia, ISIL controlled territory [of each of those totalitarian regimes they sold artifacts]
3. Last week a statue of Abraham Lincoln was toppled, months ago and months ago the statue of a man who fought against slavery was toppled in Washington, DC was toppled -

Thank you my friend PO1 Sam Deel for posting a very reasonable viewpoint and sharing what you did to stand up for reason in the public square.

LTC Stephen F. - I can't agree more, Sir. What we are seeing in America is the same destructive force to erase the past so that a new group can take ownership and get total obedience. America is no different.
