In an interview with CNN's Abby Phillip on Tuesday, prominent Republican influencer Rob Smith said he was the victim of a "hate crime" at a recent Turning Points USA event earlier this week, adding that he felt the encounter he was involved in could have turned deadly.

"I'm looking at soulless dead-eyed white supremacists that, by the way, I felt that these people could have bashed my brains in had they gotten the chance," Smith said. "I deal with these people in real life. And I know for a fact where they're coming from. I know that a lot of these people have infiltrated these conservative organizations from top to bottom."

The interview follows a viral video Smith shared on X Monday, in which he is surrounded by alleged "white supremacists" at an event hosted by Republicans for National Renewal on Dec. 17.
