LTC Eugene Chu The U.S. Army awarded the manufacturer of Abrams tanks a contract this month to begin the preliminary design of its new tank variant expected to be lighter and feature high-tech capabilities so it’s more survivable in battle, the service’s head of combat vehicle modernization told Defense News.

I'm sure it could be with carbon fiber and fiberglass. Issue would be whether it could be robust enough for combat/field duty. As a structural technician we use composites on aircraft for all sorts of structural support. I would think som sort ofa composite layer of carbon, steel, fiberglass, and/or titanium could be used to lesson weight in areas.
