ILLUSTRATIONS: (1) 1st Lt. Jefferson DeBlanc downs three fighters while covering SBDs near Vella Lavella in his VMF-112 F4F-4 Wildcat on 31 Jan. 1943. (2) DeBlanc is shot down by a Ki-43 Oscar over Kolombangara in his VMF-112 Wildcat after downing two more Japanese fighters on 31 Jan. 1943.
