Mary Yap adjusts her hard hat and looks over the cavernous expanse of the Sunrock quarry in Butner, North Carolina. It’s a blast day and Yap is a guest, so the demolition men hand her a detonator to do the honors. After a countdown, she presses the button and 50,000 tons of stone crumble like gingerbread.
The team high-fives — the natural consequence of witnessing a rock face the size of an apartment building explode — and it’s time to reap the rewards. Quarry workers begin to scoop up the rubble, an igneous stone called traprock, but Yap is after something else.
Yap co-founded a company called Lithos Carbon that takes the leftovers from quarries like this one, a gray powder that she says could help fight climate change.
“When we saw our first massive mountains of basalt dust,” she says, “we knew that this could actually be a meaningful solution.”

It won't hurt. I think going Green like Biden wants requires us to send our minerals like Lithium and Cobalt to China to process because EPA rules before Biden specify it is too dangerous to process in the USA so the Green New Deal requires Communist China as a link (since they exempt themselves from Environmental Stewardship and Democrats/Greenies like that it is not the USA back yard) but that means we are dependent on the PRC when Coal, Nuclear, gasoline/diesel and Natural Gas Canada and the USA are Fossil-fuel powerhouses but the leftist Democrats have us lose our energy independence to the PRC and others. This is a threat to our national security. Those who mine cobalt and lithium in 3rd and 4th world countries will have millions of young and old die from exposure to poisonous metals that poison people and damage their immune systems. It is ok for those from the Green New Deal.
