Hasty generalization here, but if the military wants no part of you after 3 months the odds are you probably shouldn't be allowed to have a gun. Background checks would reveal such threats to the public if you tried to get a gun.

Not likely if he wasn't flagged in the discharge paperwork. HIPAA rules don't allow for any mental medical history to show on a background check.
