SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL the discharge was probably the right move. Not everyone is cut out to serve in our Armed Forces

Hasty generalization here, but if the military wants no part of you after 3 months the odds are you probably shouldn't be allowed to have a gun. Background checks would reveal such threats to the public if you tried to get a gun.

Not likely if he wasn't flagged in the discharge paperwork. HIPAA rules don't allow for any mental medical history to show on a background check.
