APOD: 2023 January 25 – LDN 1622: The Boogeyman Nebula

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the January 25th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "LDN 1622: The Boogeyman Nebula." 'LDN' stands for 'Lynd's Dark Nebula.' What's a dark nebula? It is a type of interstellar cloud that is so dense that it obscures the visible wavelengths of light from objects behind it. LDN 1622 is a prime example of a dark nebula, and it lies in the constellation of Orion.

So don't blame it on the sunshine. Don't blame it on the moonlight. Don't blame it on the good times. Blame it on the boogie. (I know - but the song clicked on in my mind when I first saw the title of today's APOD. Meá culpa.)
