Best concert I ever saw was advertised as the Grateful Dead but was actually the Dead, all but one of the New Rider of the Purple Sage, and Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane. They played nonstop for nearly 4 hours, sometimes a dozen people on stage, sometimes only two or three. Most of it was jamming, of course. Then when they quit we yelled and hollered and they came back and did a 45 minute Casey Jones. Cost $7 to get in, 1973, Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.

Thank you my audiophile friend and brother-in-Christ 1SG Steven Imerman for letting us know that the 'best concert I ever saw was advertised as the Grateful Dead but was actually the Dead, all but one of the New Rider of the Purple Sage, and Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane.'
I saw the Grateful Dead play at University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1978 and in Atlanta, Georgia in December 1980.

A deal that comes but once in a lifetime. Glad you were one of those who experienced such a concert.

Thank You Brother Steve for playing The New Riders of the Purple Sage - Full Concert - 10/15/77 - (Official) This was such a great group. It's too bad they were so short lived like so many of the day.
