NEW YORK — Before turning against the U.S. military to command the Confederate army, Robert E. Lee served as the superintendent of West Point, the hallowed military academy that produced patriots like Ulysses S. Grant, Douglas MacArthur and Dwight Eisenhower.
But in the coming days, the storied academy will take down a portrait of Lee dressed in his Confederate uniform from its library, where it has been hanging since the 1950s and place it in storage. It will also remove the stone bust of the Civil War’s top southern general at Reconciliation Plaza. And Lee’s quote about honor will be stripped from the academy’s Honor Plaza.

Lee showed honor as an officer before the Civil War and cost the war for the South with Pickett's Charge. A lot to learn from Lee's history, good and bad.

Lee needs to be taught, the good, bad, and ugly. He cost the war for the South with Pickett's Charge and the invasion of Pennsylvania and there is more bad to teach young officers what not to do. They are pushing the bad out of history for it to repeat itself.

Excellent post. Thank You for sharing this SFC Davis Jr. I'm glad they decided to take it down. The city of Jacksonville is pushing to do the same down here. They are trying to take down a confederate statue that is dusty and collecting rust and serves no purposes anymore. But, many folks won't get over it or let it go. I say it's time that it comes down. But, ironically it's still the South.
