Fauci Claimed He Had ‘No Involvement’ In Redacting Sensitive Emails, But Legal Filings Tell A Different Story
Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared to contradict his own agency during a Nov. 23 deposition by claiming that he is not involved in the redaction of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, a transcript of the record revealed on Monday.
The seven-hour deposition was led by Republican Attorney General (AG) Eric Schmitt of Missouri and Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry of Louisiana to uncover Fauci’s role in aiding social media censorship in 2020. When asked about his role in responding to various FOIA requests about his emails from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), of which he is the director, and the National Institute of Health, Fauci responded that he was not immediately involved; however, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) previously claimed otherwise.
“I don’t — a FOIA request does not come to me, and I look through my e-mails and give the e-mails that they ask for,” Fauci said in the transcript. “We have a system at the NIH where FOIA requests come in and a different component of the institutes tap into the e-mails and provide the e-mails that are requested. I don’t decide which e-mails go and don’t go.”
Fauci continued, stating that he has “never redact[ed]” anything.
“I have no involvement in what gets redacted. It gets redacted at multiple levels beyond my — beyond me.”
However, the HHS claimed otherwise during a Joint Status Report in a 2020 lawsuit filed by the Daily Caller News Foundation over a public record request. The request is being managed by Judicial Watch, a conservative organization dedicated to “transparency, accountability and integrity in government, politics and the law,” according to its website.
In the request, the DCNF asked for all emails from Fauci and H. Clifford Lane, the director and a deputy director of the NIAID, containing information about the World Health Organization, China and COVID-19.
The HHS claimed it could only process 300 “pages of potentially responsive records per month,” which the DCNF claimed was “simply unacceptable.” (RELATED: ‘Wild West’: New Emails Reveal Fauci, NIH Officials Considered Warning FBI About Potential Lab Leak)
“Because of the technical complexity of the subjects on which NIAID works, the agency’s record custodians— in this case, Dr. Fauci and Dr. Lane, as well as their staffs— must often be given an opportunity to review the records and advise on the presence of potentially exempt material that would not be apparent to a lay person,” the HHS wrote.
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, accused Fauci and the HHS of being “dishonest.”
“Either Fauci was being dishonest about his role in FOIA or his agency was misleading a federal court to stall the release of key China-covid documents,” Fitton told the DCNF.
Fauci claimed throughout the deposition that he could not remember key details about his role in helping social media companies censor information about COVID-19, the DCNF previously reported. Fauci reportedly said the words “I don’t recall” 174 times throughout the deposition, Schmitt tweeted.
Schmitt, Landry, the NAIAD, the NIH and HHS did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.'

Top US Medical Adviser Dr Anthony Fauci was informed in Feb 2020, COVID-19 exhibited characteristics that suggested it could have been genetically altered in a lab, according to bombshell emails published.
"It is an extraordinary acknowledgement; it is incomprehensible for a public health official, charged with protecting public health to take this position, but that's what he has done," she said.
"These emails show that in the very early stages of the pandemic - in early 2020 - he became concerned that the finding for gain-of-function research in the US had flown to Wuhan.
"And we see there's a flurry of emails where he's trying to find out whether he could be responsible or whether the NIH could be responsible for funding the research that might have created the virus that has leaked."
