APOD: 2022 November 9 - The Asymmetric Nebula Surrounding Wolf Rayet Star 18

Good afternoon, Rallypoint, and welcome to the November 9th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "The Asymmetric Nebula Surrounding Wolf Rayet Star 18." Today's APOD is a composite photo of NGC 3199 (aka The Banana Nebula). Six exposures are stacked together here: 3 in the visible light spectra, and 3 others filtered to detect ionized hydrogen, oxygen, and sulfur. In other words, there's a lot going on around Wolf-Rayet (WR) 18. The Banana Nebula was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlap in 1826. It is located some 12,000 light years from Earth in the southern constellation Carina. I'll post a standard image of NGC 3199 in a separate comment for comparison.
