A retired New York Police Department officer was sentenced on Thursday to a record-setting 10 years in prison for attacking the U.S. Capitol and using a metal flagpole to assault one of the police officers trying to hold off a mob of Donald Trump supporters.

While I am never in favor of violence, this sentence is way out of line. They give people who knock others unconscious and put them into comas, less time.

He will be out on parole in far less than 10 years though. I have my doubts any of these politically inspired sentences will stick for long. Either a pardon with next Republican President or the Parole Boards will cut the sentences way back.

If Darold falls into the far right wing christian nationalist camp, then he isn't an ally of mine. Hitler was a Catholic by the way.

I bit harsh on the sentencing but no more harsh than is pretty regularly doled out to poor people in this country all the time for very minor non violent crimes. Given the greater context of what Jan 6th represents, some harsh penalties are appropriate.
