Good morning Col Burroughs and Posse. As you know, volunteering is near and dear to my heart. I am a firm believer that it cures the worst ills of people---loneliness. I never met a lonely volunteer.
I find myself more passionate and energetic now that I am retired and volunteering full time than I was when I was working full time even though I loved my work. Now I get to choose who I give my time, energy and funds to and if I find something unsatisfying I can substitute something else as there is a never-ending need out there. I highly recommend volunteering; it can help you find your passion for a career (that's how I found school counseling) or your post career plans. It can provide a reason to get up every morning and help your mental health and wellness. It certainly helps the world be a better place and it can use that! And in case you needed one more reason: volunteers are healthier and live longer than those who don't.

I expect that many people have benefited from you volunteering your time, talents, and treasures over the years as well as friendly smiles and greeting to those you volunteered with and for. No doubt that you have inspired family members to volunteer their help based on your example. 'Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.' [Galatians 6:2-5 ESV] my sister-in-Christ Lt Col Charlie Brown.

I lift volunteer firemen and women, EMT volunteers, volunteers who assist the homeless in soup kitchens and on the streets, volunteers who help rebuild communities after disaster strikes, volunteers in health care and volunteers aiding widows, widowers and orphans to YOU LORD. I pray that YOU bless each one with a large measure of endurance in doing well, an increase of compassion and a large measure of joy in fulfilling their labor of love. I pray that YOU motivate many to thank them with kind words and gestures. I am sure LORD that YOU will reward these selfless works which demonstrate love in time and eternity. ‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.’ [Mathew 22:36-39 ESV]
I pray for the parents, grandparents, extended family members, friends, and neighbors who volunteer their time, talents and treasure to assist those in need as well as helping support extra-curricular activities at schools, churches, and other places of worship and service from 4H to addiction counseling, pro-life counseling, post prison release half-way houses, rape counselors and school tutors. 'let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.' [Hebrews 4:16 ESV]
I pray for DHS agents on the southwestern border who are forced to deal with the influx of non-citizens swarming the border of Texas in hopes of asylum. Since the Biden administration invited the migrant hopefuls to come to the USA, over 100,000 have already crossed into Texas and immigrant detention centers are apparently filling up quicker than they can be built, border officials are reportedly considering holding unaccompanied minors in military bases. DHS customs and border patrol (CPB) has already requested trained and untrained volunteers to assist on that border. I pray that qualified volunteers will come to the aid of CBP. 'What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.' [James 2:14-17 ESV]
As far as the migrant want-to-be asylum granted swarming the border of Texas, I pray that Mexico will assist in slowing down the influx and that COVID and other infectious disease-infected migrants will be quickly identified and isolated when they come to the USA border if not beforehand intercepted in Mexico; 'If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles' [Matthew 5:51 ESV]
I pray that you and your family members slept well Monday night and awoke refreshed and healthy on Tuesday morning.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

Volunteer Day
1. In November 1974 I volunteered to enlist as 12b Combat infantryman
2. As a USMA 1980 graduate I volunteers to be an infantry officer
3. I have volunteered at churches to be a teacher of pre-school, an usher and a general helper.
4. I asked my darling wife to marry me on October 10, 1999 and she agreed to marry me. WE married on December 11, 1999
5. I am descended from many volunteers, my paternal grandfather volunteered for the British Expeditionary Army infantry in 1915 and served in Gallipoli, Turkey and on the Western Front during 1916 and 1917 as British Army Lance Corporal. Sadly all enlisted records from the great war were destroyed in the London fire bombings in the battle of Britain.

Good Monday, March 8, 2021 morning my friend COL Mikel J. Burroughs

Quotes:
1. Simon Sinek 'Leaders volunteer to go first into danger. Their willingness to sacrifice for us is the reason we're inspired to follow.'
2. Julius Caesar 'It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.'
3. Stonewall Jackson 'The patriot volunteer, fighting for country and his rights, makes the most reliable soldier on earth.'

Scriptures
a. James 2:14, 17 ESV
b. Mathew 22:37-39

e. Galatians 6: 2-5 ESV 'Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.'
f. John 14:26 NASB But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
g. Hebrews 4:16 'let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.'
h. Hebrews 13:5-6 'Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' So we can confidently say, 'The Lord is my helper'

How cool! I can only wish I had ancestors that served. The closest was a step-grandfather with the Air Corps in WWII. I had two brothers that were in the Marines at the same time as me but they are hardly ancestors!

LTC Ken Connolly - Good advice. When I taught high school history, we did family history to get started each year and one of the assignments was to track down the oldest story of memory in their family. For most, it was an assignment to identify and talk with their oldest living relative. Some of the stories were amazing but it brought most of the students to appreciate where they came from.

Volunteering is a way to keep pulling your oar even if you are retired. We are all in this American boat together, and it takes a lot of detail stuff to make it all work.

For three years I was active with an organization that worked against human trafficking here in the Ozarks. When I was a teacher I developed some grant writing aptitude, and pulled in $20 grand for the trafficking group in two grants, not an enormous amount, but a lot for an organization that ran on $5-6 thou a year. During covid, I have been basically squeezed out by some of the "old dogs," politics is everywhere.
Never fear, Convoy of Hope is based here in town, and a buddy took me over there during the Texas freeze crisis a couple weeks ago and we did warehouse inventories for them for an afternoon. They had dispatched multiple trucks, had received many loads of new supplies, and were loading more trucks. They had a mess and were not sure what was in the warehouse. I might be older and slower, but I can carry a clipboard and count stuff on pallets. I shall keep volunteering with them.

There is a place for every pair of hands looking to do something to help.

Get out there and get her done, RallyPoint! Besides, you meet new people and usually have a great time. Cheers!

Sgt (Join to see) - Good for you! I'm sure there are some really good places out there that need help. Libraries, blood drives, and lots of other things need volunteers. In more rural settings, like where I'm from in Iowa, the various church groups do a tremendous amount of good in many ways.
