CPT Lawrence Cable YES! THANK GOD. My heart is gleeful for this result. Count the servicemen who have borne children that are now 18 years old or those who are looking at retirement that stretched 1 war. This is good news!

My hope is that the Taliban will be able to control it's various factions long enough to make this work. It's been apparent for years we have done everything that we can, or are willing to do, to help Afghanistan and there are just some problems that they need to solve for themselves.

CPT Lawrence Cable agreed. Now our people need to feel the dirt of home on the bottom of their feet

Thank you, CPT Lawrence Cable for posting the hopeful news.
The chickens may have come home to roost after we supported the Mujahedeen in their war against USSR so long ago when President Regan was in office. It has been some time since we had a consistently strong foreign-policy administration and a no-nonsense President :-)
Thank you, my friend PO3 Phyllis Maynard for mentioning me.

To be historically accurate, sir, the Taliban was created in the chaos that developed after the Soviet withdrawal and was actively supported by Pakistan through the ISI. The problem was that the original US aid to the anti Soviet Jihadist is that it was funneled through the ISI, who of course sent it to groups that it controlled and supported their interest. Once the Soviet's left and the Soviet Union Collapsed, no one really gave a damn about what happened in Afghanistan except Pakistan, for reasons not in Afghanistan's best interest, until it became a training ground for Al Queda.

I meant to state the Mujahedeen instead of Taliban CPT Lawrence Cable and corrected my response accordingly.
