MAJ (Join to see) - that's a foolish attitude. When we were doing the bike test (AF) and I was in a joint Army billet, I did both tests and did okay on the Army and very well on the AF which I practiced for. The Army commander took the AF test and didn't do that well...he's a runner not a biker. You do best at what you practice...

Good Lord, my coaches preached this 50 years ago and the Army can't figure it out!

Most definitely! I saw people who could score close to 300’s on the APFT who failed the leg tuck for the lowest level standards in the army. The run times increased slightly for the 2 mile run, but for many women who usually had longer run times as officers really struggled after doing all the other muscle intense events. Saw a few run failures.
This fat guy is a slow runner for the APFT. I was still a slow runner for the ACFT but still did fine on the run.
Personally I prefer the ACFT. It’s more realistic. Who is going to run in PTs? You’re going to be carrying something such as battle rattle, ammo, etc when sprinting short distances. The people I saw struggle the most with the ACFT were people who were runners and didn’t have to do much strength training to pass the APFT. I like the ACFT because it think it levels the playing field. I can ruck a 50-60 lb pack all day and if not phase me. Others are dead after 3 miles. You make me run 3-4 miles at a 9 minute or less pace and I want to choke you, but for runners it’s nothing. Which is more realistic in a combat theater? Lt Col Charlie Brown
