I find it amusing that I use the same movie from yesterday to convey the " Word of the day ." But, it fits really well with it.
King Edward I ( Longshanks) Played by actor Patrick McGoohan. Proves throughout the Movie " Braveheart ", that he is a despot to be reckoned with ! Reminds me of the strong arm tactics of politics today across the aisle, and the world.

Desmond the democrat demigod, lampooned the character of the POTUS as a despot. This deplorable decision resulted in accolades among the denizens of the radicalized democrats. More measured minds recognized this as a despicable diatribe and did their utmost to combat the scurrilous comments with more noble language. Typically the discussions went downhill.
This century we have seen the adjective despotic used more frequently than the noun - especially in political commentary. In the 18th century despotism was more common in political discourse Rousseau, Tocqueville - "Montesquieu, Turgot, and Burke in Europe and to Adams, Jefferson, and Franklin in this country"
In the 18th century, Tocqueville stated "toward the end of Democracy in America, in partial summary of the central thesis of that book, which is the affinity between centralization of power and mass equalitarianism:" "The foremost, or indeed the sole, condition required in order to succeed in centralizing the supreme power in a democratic community is to love equality or to get men to believe you love it. Thus, the science of despotism, which was once so complex, has been simplified and reduced, as it were, to a single principle.”

Hmmm takes me back many a year..to my H.S. Days. And we were discuss all despots and Like you were comment’g about.. We were in a mixed class... Civilian kids and JROTC. It was my turn to drone on for a couple chapters and some of our civilian counterparts were dozing. Hey.. if I ir my fellow Cadets can’t doze, neither can these feather merchants.. Mr. Deveroux himself was catching some shuteye. I walked over to his desk and picked up a sizable tome and walked over and slammmed it on the desk of a fella that hadhis head back and was sawing off a truckload.. I pulled back and slammed it so hard I think I loosened a few bolts.. it certainly got quite a number of students whose eyes got heavy... “WHAT THE HOLY_______!” Did you do that for? Even Mr. Deveroux was bent
Out of shape ! I think a few girls peed themselves..and a couple snowflake guys too..... well classwas concluded and I was asked to take myself to the detention office for some charge to be thought up.. Our Cmdt bailed me out on that one.. it was winter-time
And I surmised one of thesnowflake guys did urinate in his drawers.. Mommy presented a dry clean’g Bill
I just said I wasn’t paying, he should NOT have fallen asleep in class.. “where was the teacher? “ out of the room ! I fibbed a little.. I will talk to our atty. She came back.. he wouldn’t do anything. In fact he laughed about it she admitted.. So she sucked it up and lived with-it..
I didn’r Have to take my turn running our class again.. (darn it!)..
Mr. Deveroux used my book slam quite a bit after that.. kids quit dozing in his class .. one of the kids was going to have the teacher charged with assault .. We told him.. You got what you deserved ! STAY. AWAKE ! We’ll tell the judge you fell asleep.. He didn’t physically touch you, just slammed the book on the desk.. So just suck it up buttercup !... he still sued, we all got called as ‘hostile witnesses.’.
His attorney asked we all be charged as being complicit with the teacher .. kid just coyldn’t Win..
The judge laughed and threw it out! . ..
