Air Force Academy cadet sentenced to 75 days for sexual assault

I concur with your assessment in part, my friend SSG(P) (Join to see). 75 days may seem trivial for Air Force Academy Cadet 2nd Class Armis Sunday.
However. the other stipulations will cost him dearly.
1. dismissal — which is the equivalent of a dishonorable discharge for officers and cadets;
2. required to register as a sex offender, and
3. having to repay the Air Force for the education he received at the academy.

"An Air Force Academy Cadet 2nd Class Armis Sunday was convicted of sexual assault in a court-martial last week has been sentenced to 75 days of confinement.
Cadet 2nd Class Armis Sunday was convicted Feb. 1 of groping a female cadet while she was asleep in her dorm room, and sentenced that evening. Sunday could have been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison."
In an email Wednesday, academy spokeswoman Tech. Sgt. Tabitha Lee said Sunday was also sentenced to a dismissal — which is the equivalent of a dishonorable discharge for officers and cadets — and total forfeitures of pay and allowances.
He will be required to register as a sex offender, Lee said, and will likely have to repay the Air Force for the education he received at the academy."

Well said SSG(P) (Join to see). There is a reason sexual assaults are so rampant in the military; its tolerated. I keep saying prosecution needs to be taken away from the Commander and given to an independent prosecuting authority. Only then will this problem be dealt with. It should not be an issue in our military.

The military will inundate us with the training and for 99.9% of us, it works. We all understand the consequences of what can happen if we are not compliant. This 75-day sentence is a farce; this is WHY people are hesitant to report.
