How will we solve this- instead of making people conform....the services will have to conform. Pasty white pee stained underwear keyboard/gaming warriors are the "growing" trend.

That is an interesting headline my friend LTC Greg Henning especially since obesity has been an issue for generations - getting couch potatoes off the couch a few decades ago was a strategy. Then along came video games, young people played online and in virtual reality with minimal exercise and snack consumption all too often.
Generally there have always been motivated self-starting young people who desired to join the military services and police and security forces. Many families encourage their offspring to serve their nation.
As long as the voluntary force is sufficient, I would expect the threat level to our potential national security would be less than amber. If a general mobilization is required then I would rate capability to expand the force levels significantly as amber.
At the national level, the Bully Pulpit can help. At local levels parents primarily and schools secondarily can help motivate young people.
However the village is generally useless :-)

Recruiting is an issue. Lots of unfit, overweight kids. But more than that, it eats healthcare dollars for avoidable medical issues.

PO3 Bob McCord - absolutely. Or have your kids volunteer at the library and carry and shelve books. Or at the animal shelter and walk and play with the dogs. I can think of a half dozen things....
