On July 25, 1866, David Faragut was appointed as the first admiral in US Navy. He served for sixty years from the ages of nine to sixty nine. "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" From the article:

During the US Civil War David Farragut served as the joint Naval fleet commander to MG U.S. Grant in the Mississippi River campaigns which freed the Mississippi and dived eastern CSA from western CSA
