4 times after my return from my last tour, I picked up my pistol and was ready to end what I considered to be a failed life.
Today, over 6 years since my last attempt, I have a picture of myself holding our granddaughters. How much joy and happiness is there in that photo!
I look at it and shutter to think of how their lives would be.
I look at that photo and it reinforces the fact that nothing I had been through was worth missing that photo.
Better days will come, and when they do, you’re going to want to be sure you’re there to make your own picture.
This is my testimony of success, not failure. Follow Lt Col Charlie Brown’s advice and reach out. Even the best, most battle hardened infantry platoons and even SOCOM operators have to call in CAS, so just follow your training and call for support.
I love all of my brothers and sisters on here, and want you to be around to show your photos of success. Here are a few of mine. None of the following pics would have happened (especially A Flower On Every Grave at the Alabama National Cemetery) had I chose to end it.
All of these smiles are 110% pure, and it stays there during every waking hour. In my hospital admissions and visits, I no longer look at them as having to go there to get better, I now see that I’m going because someone there needs a smile.
We all need help throughout our lives. Please seek help if you ever think about taking your smile away from the world. COL Mikel J.
