Reader reaction to 'A Secret History of SEAL Team 6' ... is anybody here surprised?

Brutal, misguided killers? Courageous heroes to whom our country is deeply in debt? Or both?
More than 1,000 readers of a Sunday story about SEAL Team 6 debated those questions in a discussion that reached the heights of patriotic idealism and plumbed the depths of war-weary cynicism.

Frigate retirements could cripple drug interdiction efforts. Just another DOD budget ploy?

Frigates are, hands-down, the heavy hitter in the Navy's fight to stop drug traffickers at sea. They nabbed 98 percent of the 164 metric tons of cocaine, valued at $3.2 billion, that Navy ships have seized in the last five years.
But the frigates' service coming to an end this summer, which could cr...

Has anyone visited the National WWII Submarine Memorial in Groton, CT?
Today I took my "crew" to the USS Nautilus museum in Groton, CT. On the way I saw a sign for the National WWII Submarine Memorial. Not having heard of it, we decided to investigate. So glad we did. What a beautiful memorial and tribute to the 52 subs and 3000+ crewman lost during WWII.
Do you think it is true that U.S. military and civilians are increasingly divided? What makes you think that?

While the U.S. waged a war in Vietnam 50 years ago with 2.7 million men conscripted from every segment of society, less than one-half of 1% of the U.S. population is in the armed services today - the lowest rate since World War II. America's recent wars are authorized by a U.S. Congress whose member...

Saving Sammy B: A frigate's heroic legacy. What do you think of the crew's fight to save their ship?

It was April 14, 1988: the day USS Samuel B. Roberts, on her maiden cruise, should have sunk in the Persian Gulf but was saved by a herculean effort.

What are some traditions in Navy frocking?

I was informed by command triad yesterday of my advancement. She framed it along with her Shadow Box. So I was wondering, what are some o...
