Thanks for sharing LTC (Join to see) the unsurprising news that the Joint Program Office deleted a number of test points in order to meet its goals and still couldn't meet a much revised schedule.
It proves that if you can't meet the development milestone it may be time to reevaluate the criteria.
"After more than a decade, the F-35 program has reached a major milestone and finished flight tests related to the System Development and Demonstration phase, or SDD. But as with anything relating to the Joint Strike Fighter, this announcement comes with significant caveats and amid new controversies, including that the Joint Program Office deleted a number of test points in order to meet its goals and still couldn't meet a much revised schedule.
One of the U.S. Navy's operational test F-35C, known as CF-2, completed the last SDD flight test on April 11, 2018. The objective of that particular experiment was to gather load carrying data regarding the simultaneous external underwing carriage of two 2,000-pound class GBU-31/B Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) GPS-guided bombs and two AIM-9X Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. In total, since 2006, the Joint Strike Fighter program’s Integrated Test Force completed more than 17,000 flight hours across 9,200 test flights, which hit more than 65,000 test points relating to the aircraft’s various mission systems and weapons employment."

I read in my command and general staff officer course we were doing a procurement discussion that president W bush bypass procurement prototype competition and approved production before the Prototype had its bugs worked out. It had problems with the engine being underpowered or not being able to sustain 120% of thrust among other things and the Russian the production is almost like The Tortoise and the Hare analogy. The tortoise which I consider the F-15 F-16 F-18 models can still out do the F-35 if there are more of them. The F-35 could probably see and maybe shoot from a distance but it can't talk fight and it can't do close air support. I was thinking we should make it a hybrid and put it in the existing models giving it an edge in the close dog fight. May disagree but the plane still is underpowered and getting fatter. This plane is like the Delta Burke of stealth aircraft.

For those who don't know who Delta Burke is okay I will make an analogy from comedians of the past like John Candy or Chris Farley. Meaning somebody overweight or fat such as a fat uncoordinated fighter plane like the F-35.

Well perhaps, but I honestly can't think of an aircraft that hasn't gone through controversy during development since before WWII for sure. You can't please all the people all the time and with a project as complex as the F-35 there are bound to be hiccups. IMO the issue goes back to trying to build a joint aircraft for multiple services. One would think that after the fiasco of developing the TFX/F-111, that I flew for over 10 years, DOD would have learned the fallacy of such programs, but NO they continue to try. The good news is that development is just about over and the operators will finally get the chance to make the aircraft perform as planned.

This piece of equipment is turning out to be a real disappointment. It sounds cool to talk about all its capabilities but like most of these endeavors fall short of actual capability.
