Thank you my friend SGT (Join to see) for reminding us that on may 28, 1953 Sir Edmund Percival Hillary KG ONZ KBE OSN who along with Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest.

Always fascinated with this expedition from when this was an accomplishment. Not the interstate highway reaching the top of Everest has become these days.

Yeah, I have read of him...I gather because he was in a country allied to the UK, there was a problem of some kind in him gett ing the exact same award as Hillary, so I gather he was given the closest comparable award UK law allowed at that time, or so I'd read....
