Lt Col Charlie Brown Ah, Yes! but will they finally be managed competently?!?! They certainly aren't being managed that way now. I live in a state that has sales tax, and I still cannot save money in either store. It is a very telling statement that the exchange says that they will match any price you find off base, but then throw their arbitrary 10 mile rule at you. Well, there typically isn't much within that radius except Walmart, and if you tried to get price match there, you would go comatose trying to list all the items they need to match. They shouldn't have to match, it should already be lower. They have greatly reduced overhead. The commissary claims no sales tax. Well I contend that the 5% "surcharge" is a tax, as is the "bagger tip". Once those are computed in, I would rather shop at Publix, pay the tax, and honor the policy of not tipping baggers because they get full pay already.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Wow! At Kunsan, there was a problem with the delivery of U.S. Beef. As soon as it came in, the "locals" who worked there would call their "entitled" individuals, and the store would be bought out before the servicemen were able to even walk in the doors. The Wing Commander stepped in and made a rule that you had to be a card carrying U.S. Serviceman to purchase the U.S. Beef for the first four days after it arrived. Then they tried not stocking it, well, that didn't work either. They were very disgruntled when the four days were up and there was virtually none left for them because the servicemen actually got to buy it. Of course, we contras this with the three separate "Grand Opening" ceremonies of the first ever Burger King at Kunsan when I was there. They had on for the 7th AF and USFLK dignitari3es, then the next day, they held one for the local dignitaries, then they had one for the actual wing members. The damned place nearly closed because many of us wouldn't eat there. Eventually, you have to give up and go there though, just for something different. To this day I do not eat at Burger King, but that is because they moved their HQ to Canada to get out of paying the U.S. taxes. Gotta love a company that is on EVERY U.S. Base, but doesn't want to pay our taxes.
