Thanks for reminding us that the USSR declared war on Japan after the H-bombs were dropped on Japan. For the Soviets it was not a cake walk and they launched a massive operation which included airborne assaults, horse-cavalry units and lots of infantry to ensure the 7000,000 man Japanese Army was overwhelmed SP5 Mark Kuzinski
In this case many Japanese surrendered instead of suicide charges after the Japanese Emperor sued for surrender.

The interesting point for me is that a Manchurian border war book ended WW2. The Soviets fought the Japanese Manchurian army in 1938 to a draw and then again in 1945 with a complete rout of the Japanese.
