Both fired anti-aircraft guns (German 88mm/American 90mm). Where the Americans differed, is that they kept the high velocity AA rounds, which travelled at an unholy high fps. When you do this, the kinetic energy alone will tear your turret off, tip you over, etc. The Germans on the other hand, had a simpler problem, just to simply cut through thick Russian armor. So the load out would be different. While the Pershing's armor may not have been 100% Tiger-proof, it was a 2000% improvement over the M-4. On a tank to tank level, the Pershing's reliability and better maneuverability would spell the end of a Tiger. Even the King Tiger couldn't outrun a Pershing. And while it's armor was thicker than the Tiger I, it was heavier, slower and carried the same pattern gun. Again - it's primary goal was fighting Russians.
